Brian -

On balance, I'd say that was a pretty good article. It makes a distinction between the validity of asking about a candidate's theology and asking him about his church's civic agenda.

Obama has made it pretty clear that he approves of the good work the Trinity UCC does within the community on the South Side. And by the way, the church apparently does not believe, as the author of the article implies, that all social problems should be solved by the government. If they did believe that, they wouldn't go out in the community and try to help solve social problems.

Your article says "Generally, Christians who attack a man’s theology in the political realm are wrong. The theology of the UCC and its disdain for theological knowledge are not relevant to Senator Obama’s quest for the White House."

While I won't take it as a given that the UCC has disdain for theological knowledge, I agree that the questions of it theology aren't relevant to his campaign. If reporters want to ask Obama about UCC's civic agenda, I think he should answer their questions.
