Schools and academia has always leaned left for as long as I have been attending them. Newspapers and mainstream media are well-known for leaning left as well.

Universities lean left; some public schools do, most don't. The politics of a newspaper depends on its community. You ain't going to have a very liberal rag in David Duke country. As for the national media, I didn't grow up watching the Nightly News. And most of the last 30 years we've had GOP presidents.

The notion that you had to "learn the liberal POV" on your own is laughable, because it's not like it was ever an esoteric political movement.

What I learned of liberalism growing up was mostly through the eyes and mouth of Republicans. I had no idea they were such big liars.....so I believed them.
