Not much hypocrisy. Some Republicans want smaller government, many want at least slower growth of government. Bush has never really been one of either group. I think he should be attacked for being a big spender, but not as much for hypocrisy, at least not when compared to other politicians (they all tend to have at least some level of hypocrisy, at least all the major ones)

Gore's a very popular guy in this country right now and if "somehow" he could get the nomination this year he'd beat McCain by 25 points.

I doubt that very much. Neither Hillary, nor Obama, nor Gore would win by that much, if they win at all. And Gore isn't more popular than the other two dems.
