Well...you have to take into account that it was 1932 and the Roosevelt Administration was the FIRST economically pro-active administration in the Country's history. It's TOUGH to get things exactly right when you're the first person to try them. The guy got elected FOUR times and his Vice President got "re-elected" in 1948 because of "residual" appreciation of FDR. Hoover actually CUT spending toward the end of his term because he thought budget surpluses would be the best answer to everything. He got so many death threats that he had to be "escorted from room to room" IN the Whitehouse.
