functionally equivalent Of course not... how could they be.. Their agendas are different ... and of course Hitler Stalin and Mao used some particularly nasty methods.. (I wonder though how well things would have been under Chiang had he won, kinda like a Chinese Batista vis a vis the US.. old timers in my family on the Chinese branch exalted Chiang and Sun, and hated Mao and the Japanese pretty much the same) functionally equivalent DOES NOT mean nothing in common though does it.. but they all do what is necessary that they can get away with to advance the agenda including outright lies.. I was sitting in class in grade 3. I was seven years old and the Mother Superior came in (Chinese Catholic Mission School in Montreal Chinatown) and spoke to our teacher. Our teacher explained what happened and I think we prayed for an hour... was a long time.. The nuns were really upset..
