Buffon suits MQ!
A clown; a jester: a court buffoon.
A person given to clowning and joking.
A ludicrous or bumbling person; a fool.

CB, was thinking on your inference.. I was wondering if you have anything not anecdotal, other than your interpretations of the Dalai Lama's words (which you have not cited with examples either BTW). I simply indicated that possibly this Harrer chap may have had some influence on the then 11 year old Dalai Lama's thinking. In Harrer's book 7 Years in Tibet he seems to indicate that he becomes basically a tutor to the Dalai Lama, especially on matters of how the outside world works. The seclusion of Tibet would obviously have meant little was known. Now I will check out some of the Dalai Lama's writings. I expect that if Harrer had no influence as you seem to indicate, I should find nothing more than a casual reference to him at best.

I would like to hear your take on why Tibet is different from North America. It's not (as I posted to Jay), that I think all is good in Tibet, but rather that it is so incredibly tiresome hearing the guilty telling other nations how they should not follow our example but 'do the right thing' instead.. when their own motives are highly suspect.. and history, irrefutable, tells me I should suspect the motives.. (Only Jay has offered any answer)

The Black Swan

I'll let you know when I read some of this stuff.. Like actually going to China instead of relying on hearsay... reading the source is believing and verifying purported facts of course..
