Triff, i think the idea behind the standard offer for solar was that it is pumped into the grid, when it is needed most, at peak periods of the day... that's why the high price for solar.
I am sure the devious brain is hard at work...get on the solar 20 year inflation adjusted plan and add wind power later <g> for .42 cents.
Ontario is in the process of going to smart meters so the cost of using electricity will be way up for peak periods of the day..thus if wind power is created, batteries would make sense...my opinion, storage just makes sense all around for those extra gigs produced in the middle of the night by hydro, wind, coal or whatever for use at peak demand.

Triff, yes it is a sweet deal.If you look forward 3 years it becomes even sweeter.Turning your hydro meter backwards at the rate of 42 cents a KWH, becomes even sweeter when you have a plug in hybrid that will give you the first 100 miles on all electric...sun powering your vehicle and 42 cents for the excess..surprises me there isn't a stampede for the standard offer..if i didn't have to hack down trees around my house ...i'd be on it.

Fellow Ontarions.(mostly rural and farmers)<g>

Put off buying that new vehicle for 35 or 40 thousand ya know it will only be worth 5 thousand or less in ten years time.

Instead "invest" that money in Ontario's Standard Offer program which will pay you $0.42/kWh for solar photovoltaic energy..thats over 8 times what you are paying for hydro now.

Now, after you are signed onto that 20 year, lucrative, adjusted to inflation deal..buy proper sized VRB energy storage system, charge it at night for 5 cents a KWH and sell it back to good old Ontario for $0.42/kWh. Everyone is happy.Ontario is happy because they don't have to build expensive cost over run nuclear reactors, you are happy just making money, and your mechanic is happy fixing up your old car.

I'd do it myself but i don't want to sacrifice my trees.
