Well, there has been incompetence on both sides of the aisle. Most notably in the last 7 years of Bush. The 90's were great years and we have to give credit to the Republican Congress and Bill Clinton for keeping the budget balanced and paying down the debt.

The biggest difference in spending habits between the Reps and Dems is that Reps spend money on military and on other countries. Dems like to spend money on Americans with big welfare programs.

So my first preference is to keep to a balanced budget by keeping taxes and spending low. However, if we have to spend more due to unforseen catastrophes like 9/11 and having to fight in Afghanistan, then raise taxes. It's irresponsible to borrow from China to pay for Afghanistan and now Iraq.

However, if it is impossible to every balance our budget and we plan on doing uncontrolled spending, then at the very least let's please make sure we spend the money on Americans instead of Iraqis. If we're going to go into debt, then at least lets get some benefit out of it.
