There is a difference between shoving our might down people's throats and giving them a loving helping hand. Bush is of the former variety. Do you travel abroad much? I do. I remember as a youth traveling extensively and being an American got you through doors. People LOVED Americans. Now, people sneer at you. We are pariahs. They look down on us. You have no idea how much our prestige has been hurt. No, we are most certainly NOT the beacon of light we once were. The difference, and this is a subtle one that you may not grasp, is that in the past, people would come here to take advantage of the opportunities and would become patriots in their own right. They gave back. Now, people will still come to the US to take advantage of the opportunities, but they hate Americans. Their goal will be to get there's by hook or by crook and not to give back. Being a true beacon of light means everyone wants to give you a hand because you are you and they do it out of the goodness of their hearts, not because you force them to by holding a gun to their heads.
