I have a quick story about a momma moose and her baby. I went to kindergarten in Anchorage. I remember once the bus dropped us off at the school and there stood a cow and calf moose near the school door. Being intelligent 6 yo kids, we went up to pet them. When a dozen of us were just about to touch them, a couple teachers saw us, and came flying out of the schoolhouse, screaming and yelling.

It took me several years to understand why those crazy adults got so upset with us.

Nice set of photos. I saw a cute little calf like that last summer on a really woodsy section of trail. It popped out of the foliage and started following right behind me like it thought I was mama. I could hear mama ten feet away browsing in the trees, so I flapped my jacket at it a couple of times to shoo it off. Then I scooted down the trail a bit to make sure I was well outside the cow's comfort zone.
