All right WIJ's. Thank you. Enough people here have said that all 401(K) income is taxed at the ordinary rate (except your exception) that that must be correct.

I think the confusion on my part, is in part, that I have both a traditional and a rollover IRA (from a 401k)and the rules about the taxing of withdrawals are different for each one.

Rather than belabor the subject on this thread I'll leave it at that-- and thanks again to all who offered advice.
