I discovered Lightfoot when I was in high school. My parents had given a temporary home to an injured Marine (long story) that none of us knew beforehand. It turned out this Marine was a Canadian and when he got home, he mailed me, a fifteen year old girl, a Lightfoot album.

It was instant love for me. But my parents hated his music and none of my friends were impressed.

Through the years, I bought everything Lightfoot released...and then I moved on to other artists. About ten years ago, one of my adult children living in Colorado, called to say he had 'discovered this great new artist'.....it was Gordon Lightfoot....a NEW artist. I was finally vindicated.

I haven't thought of him or listened to his music in years, so thanks for the memories. :<)

>>Have you seen Lightfoot in concert?

I did once. The music was great, but his stage presence had some flaws. He grumped until the intermission, then came back silly--the kind of silly that you get through your nose.<<

I was just thinking about seeing him in concert in Phoenix, many, many years ago. The opening act was great, a Canadian singer/songwriter named Judy Sill. But when Lightfoot came out he was obviously drunk. His performance was acceptable, but I was left with a bad impression.
