It is desirable if you're a liberal. I wouldn't want to live there (and in fact, can live where ever I'd like, and intentionally passed on Austin).

Its generally prosperous and a nice place to live, but thats not uncommon for TX.

At any rate, Travis county is governed by TX law. Its not some independent principality.
