I searched and found a very old license with Apple:
Apple Licenses QUALCOMM's PureVoice Technology for QuickTime 3.0 Leading Telephony Technology Helps Deliver Speech for the Internet MARKHAM, Ontario - January 7, 1998 -- In an agreement designed to enhance the quality of voice audio over the Internet, Apple Computer, Inc. announced today it has licensed QUALCOMM's PureVoice technology to be included in QuickTime 3.0. QuickTime 3.0 is the latest version of the Company's award-winning, industry-standard software architecture for creating and publishing digital media for Mac OS and Windows.
By integrating QUALCOMM PureVoice technology into QuickTime 3.0, Apple is helping content providers deliver superior voice-based content to every Internet user, at any modem connection speed. QUALCOMM's PureVoice is an industry leading compression technology designed for use in a wide range of voice-enabled software applications. PureVoice compresses the spoken word, such as a newscast, to a compact digital format while still delivering an extremely high, nearly land-line voice quality experience for the listener.
Targeted for Internet use, the integration of PureVoice enhances QuickTime with high quality, low data rate audio compression for speech, enabling quality Internet playback on modems as slow as 14.4kbps. PureVoice technology brings enhanced spoken word audio while reducing file size and transmission time ten-fold when compared with common audio formats such as Wave. A typical one minute voice mail message stored in a Wave file would require over seven minutes to transmit using 28.8kbps modem. The same voice mail compressed into a QuickTime Movie file using PureVoice technology would take less than 45 seconds to download, allowing the listener to hear the message as it is transferred. While PureVoice can deliver quality speech in as little as 900 bytes per second, the technology can scale to achieve better quality audio by applying a higher data rate.
"PureVoice technology, in combination with Apple's QuickTime, offers the best combination of both worlds: high-quality voice compression and smaller file size for increased performance," said James DeBello, vice president and general manager of QUALCOMM's Eudora division. "Since PureVoice is an audio technology designed specifically to capture voice bandwidths, the difference in quality is easily discernible from other voice capture technologies that have not been similarly optimized."
"Before today's announcement, content providers were required to buy a media server and several hundred dollars worth of software to publish high-quality spoken word content on their websites," said Bruce Hough, Product Line Manager - Software, Apple Canada, Inc. "Now, by integrating QUALCOMM's PureVoice audio technology, QuickTime 3.0 provides the creative community with the ability to publish spoken word content from any web server. And because QuickTime 3.0 is supported on all major personal computer platforms and browsers, virtually any desktop computer user will be able to take advantage of this innovation."
