I suppose sustainable is a relative term.

Does it have to last for 50 years, 100 years, 500 years, 10000 years, or until the sun goes red giant, in order to be sustainable?

Our supply is finite. Thus, coal is not sustainable.

Estimates are that our coal supply could last over one hundred years. That's not really a very long time. My grandmother lived that long.
