Steve; I think there is a much simpler way to fix the Fed than Paul's gold/no Fed solution: remove the Fed's dual inflation/growth mandate and replace it with the inflation mandate only, like most of the other CBs have. The Fed's role should be preservation of the currency's value, as it was until Congress changed things in the late seventies.
