Bush: "Our Aircraft Carriers can defend against x simultaneous missile attacks!"

Ahmadinejad: "That's very nice. We have 2x missiles aimed at each ship. Nice knowin' ya!"

Folks around here who pay attention usually know when military action is imminent because the military helicopters fly around this area. They were flying around just before the surge was announced, and flying like mad before Desert Shield was announced.

Excellent post!

A few things come to mind.

1) William Fallon may have resigned because he doesn't want to be the commander who lost both the fleet and the army (if you lose the fleet, the army is toast).

2) Bush/Cheney may have already tried to start this war on multiple occasions only to be stopped by the professional officer corps in the US military (people for whom I have the highest respect).

3) Going nuclear is insane. Planners in WWI made the assumption that they could overcome their enemies with the advanced technologies of the day - tanks/aircraft/gas warfare/submarines/radio/machine guns/etc. It didn't happen because the enemies could match the technology. The result was three decades of major warfare with enormous destruction.

4) I'm going to stock up on whiskey and head for the hills.

OT: Thank you so much for posting that Sea Otter. You caused me to do a heck of a lot of extra reading this weekend pursuing the subject but it was well worth it.

FWIW China is following almost the exact same missile strategy in the event of a Taiwan confrontation. They apparently believe Iran has the right idea. I shudder to think how vulnerable ships, all ships, will be when those things can move at Mach 4+. The nature of sea warfare is about to change dramatically.
