No there is nothing wrong with going by "Ms Obama". She could also go by Robinson-Obama. In fact Hillary use to go by Rodham-Clinton but apparently that has changed and now she goes by Hillary Clinton, with no hyphen.

Why do you suppose Hillary decided to change this?

Everything you do when you running for President makes a statement and going by Ms Obama will increase her appeal to a certain category of voters and will decrease her appeal to a different category of voters.

It wouldn't effect my vote either, but I think that over the entire electorate it will hurt slightly. It make a statement about what group you want to be associated with.
