During vietnam i thought we were in a life and death struggle with communism so why is that war fought for nothing? Because history has since shown it had little effect on the outcome of the cold war.

The point is that those against the war in Vietnam were largely proven right. But the circumstances surrounding Vietnam were totally different and don't relate to the war in Iraq in any way, shape or form.

The problem is that Vietnam created a substantial group of lifetime war protesters, who, regardless of the reason for or circumstances about a war, will protest it. The Left, in general, aligns itself with that group, so that young people who are liberals automatically determine that war is never acceptable. Of course, there are times when wars are necessary.

If the likely outcome in iraq is a shiaa state in the south, somewhat the puppet of iran, a free kurdish region or state and some sort of tribal chief run sunni area, there is no reason to believe that a catastrophe would occur in such a case.

I'm not sure what the likely outcome is in Iraq today. America has ended up fighting, not only an insurgency in Iraq, but an insurgency in America -- led by The Left -- and it is exacerbating an already difficult problem.

I must say that I am furious at Bush's refusal to lay the law down to Iran. There is no reason for us to tolerate their involvement in this mess, and we should threaten Iran, and follow up, if necessary, with military action. This will do more to bring about the end of the war than anything I can think of.
