>>But your 'Liberal' friend Allen, in the message right before this one, thinks that the teenage driving record of a spouse should have been an issue used against George W. Bush.<<

Brian -

I was kidding. It was such a ridiculous idea that I didn't think I needed to include a smiley to indicate that.

Of course I don't think Laura Bush's driving record should have been an issue, any more than I think Michelle Obama's choice of title should be.

- Allen

PS: On reflection, I feel bad about making a joke in relation to an incident that took the life of a young man, and undoubtedly traumatized the young Laura.

certain things can be used as issues and do have a cost at the ballot box

Yes, they can. But their use in election after election has produced political train wrecks of one sort or another and left the country in its most miserable and dissatisfied state in decades.

So my point is that maybe we need a movement against glorifying and using them as more important indicators of ability to govern than policy proposals.

Maybe we could get something done that way instead of having another 50-50 food fight that leaves us.....where we are now, again, in a mess.

It's funny that the country has such a deep level of animosity to the results of current system (both Bush and Congress) but no one seems very interested in changing the system at all. Just do more of the same and we get.....

More of the same.
