Regarding the mideast, one also might conclude that Bin Laden outsmarted us in Iraq. He threw limited resources at it and in retrospect probably was only looking to making our presence there more difficult than winning anything outright. We even took his rhetoric about iraq being the new point of struggle with the west. So what happened? 5 years later the taliban and al Quaeda are reconstituted in afganistan and wahiristan and pakistan is far less ready, able or willing to resist them while afganistan takes a giant step backward.
So who are the winners in the US invasion.
1. Iran who solidifed the shiaa crescent and now has sort of protectorate in south iraq
2. al quaeda who might have duped us into making a committment in iraq so they could bog us down and prevent their defeat in afganistan and pakistan.
3. Pakistan not as a winner but as a state with constraints in fighting terrorism with musharif neutered and the secularists forced to partner with more of the religious pols after al quaeda took care of Bhutto.

So to INODE and BRUMAR, i say nice job. This admin got nothing right so perhaps it was bush who has given islamic fascism its biggest boost. I like mccain so i wont call him mcsame just yet but unless he can breakaway from this failed policy of misunderstanding our enemie(s) and mis-under-estimating them, he will be just more of the same.
