"How many miles do you drive a day? Do you really clock more than 30k miles per year?"

What's your comment regarding this point?

".....you're not counting the cost of charging your car while it's parked in the garage (i.e. "moving the smokestack," the effects of which you continue to ignore)."

CJ, > How many miles do you drive a day? Do you really clock more than 30k miles per year?

I used to drive almost 20K miles per year here in Southern California. It was crazy. Recently that has come down to 15K miles.

I'd still like to know how much it would cost to fully charge up the battery. Is it more efficient to burn the fossil fuel in a power plant and transmit the power to the garage than it is to burn it in an internal combustion engine? Or are we going to make up for the increased demand in electricity with solar and wind, which itself is quite expensive at the moment?

You only get "100 MPG" when you drive 80 miles a day and 40 of those are off the battery. "

That's a bad question to ask of someone from S. CA. You can easily drive 50 miles or more per day no matter how careful you are.
