In a way those are great news - all that the US Congress needs to do is to apply this law to white collar crimes in the financial markets worldwide, so any deposits of overseas entities which trade in US debt can be also seized.

This would not lower the demand for US treasury debt to the contrary it will increase demand due to lack of manipulation.

Webster,

I like your thinking on this. The only real problem that I see with it is that drug lords don't lobby Washington the way that the collective white-collar thieves do. Therefore, it would be highly unlikely that Washington passes a law that allows the seize of the property and assets of individuals accused of white-collar crimes any time soon, unfortunately.

There just appears to be too many fingers in the 'cookie jar'. It is interesting to note that the one individual who railed against these white-collar crimes was taken down to the roars of Wall Street. That would be Eliot Spitzer. Obviously, he had his own issues but I can't think of one other politician in the past 20 years who 'honestly' prosecuted white-collar crimes the way that he did. Why? It is political suicide.

Cheers,

Steve
