Enemies would not dare to attack Iran: Leader
TEHRAN, May 2 (MNA) -- Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Thursday said the enemies would not dare to attack Iran because they would then be trapped in an impossible situation.

Addressing a military parade in the southwestern city of Shiraz, Ayatollah Khamenei dismissed the “threats and tough talk of the hegemonic powers” as psychological warfare.

“Everyone knows that the enemies of the Iranian nation do not have the courage and impudence to invade this great and historic country since they would be entering an arena from which departure would not be possible.”

He described the armed forces as the “stronghold of security and peace”, advising them to “grow stronger day by day through innovation and creativity.”

The commander in chief praised the Iranian nation and army for their strong resistance against the Iraqi Baath regime’s forces during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which proved Iran’s strength to the world.

He went on to say that the Islamic Republic’s defense buildup is not in preparation for attacks on other states but is a response to the global hegemonistic powers’ aggressive policies.

“Even when the Islamic system was under military attack by Saddam and his allies, it did not even think of aggression against and occupation of other countries. Thus, the daily upgrading of the armed forces is not for attacks on others, but rather it is the aggressive policies of the global hegemonistic powers that caution nations to be prepared.”

Commenting on the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the Supreme Leader said, “Over the past five years the Iraqis have experienced the most insecure period of their lives due to the major powers’ nature, which is rooted in impiety, occupation, and insecurity.”

Since the Islamic system knows this nature, it has adopted a firm stance toward the United States, he stated.
