Anyone who thinks the credit crunch is over should bear in mind that offloading worthless debt onto the Fed simply drags it out into the future. This reminds me of Japan in the 'Nineties. Delaying the ultimate accounting just leaves a "Sword of Damocles" hanging over a market that isn't going to recover until the losses are realized and the players which overextended themselves are eliminated from the market. Capitalism only works when it ruthlessly destroys those who make flagrant errors. The current system of government welfare for markets prolongs the downturn and makes any recovery move far into the future.
