More than anyone else, I know that this is a gamble. But just as with the US, i dont want the future of either country to be that of permanent warrior. I dont buy into the evangelical fervor for israel. I hate the self righteous christians who try to ban Israeli professors from the universities. Carter is a principle christian who is neither of the above and i think he is trying to find a third way both for jews and for palestinians who themselves are mired in a self destructive dance. This initiative might fail--sure but the next overture who knows. Maybe one day both sides will have an epiphany and perhaps some of that will come from carter.
