The thing is, the Persian Gulf is on Iran's doorstep. These pissing matches are totally stupid - they are the ONLY reason Iran is even hostile toward us. Supporting Israel beyond all reason is not in our national interest. They were of use during the Cold War - now, they are a nothing but a HEAVY liability. They have the largest, best equipped military in the region, and can take care of themselves. Israel has more nukes than Britain. Iran doesn't threaten US.
