It's an odd thing to do to animals for absolutely no good reason. I'm not sure I place a high value on endangering animals and humans to run around a track so people can bet on them. I'm not much of a fan of car racing either.

At least with a foot race or bicycle race you aren't endangering an animal or wasting fossil fuels, and the only guy who gets hurt is the human who chooses to engage in the sport. Not that I want to watch running or bicycling either, but it seems more morally justifiable than horse or car racing.

Did you notice how soft that track is. It's not packed enough to my way of thinking. After that Filly ran her heart out for the race of her life and the jokey tried to slow her down she just mistepped in that soft sand like track...

Both front ankles broken...

I love horses and this accident really hit home with me.
