My sentiment is until a leader tells the voting public that the governments best efforts to provide medical services pale in comparison compared to the ability of the individual to improve his own health, then we are on a path of mutual destruction. The obese and smoking public are heading to unemployment, medicaid and disability insurance. The rest of us will be dragged down paying for the their costs to society.

I think the data reveals that the vast majority of health care costs are for human behavior issues.

You think providing preventive care will reduce back end costs? I think this is a drop in the bucket. My bet is that most people with health insurance dont listen to the doctors advice if it involves any substantial change in behaviour. You know, regular exercise, change in diet, stop smoking, etc. Maybe they dont listen until they have a come to Jesus visit in the ER.

The government already spends a very large % of total health care dollars, they might as well figure out how to cover the rest. Perhaps all employers should be required to provide basic health care and the government covers the major stuff.

Either way I think it is inevitable we end up with much more being spent and worse health care service for the producers in the country. The really rich from the USA and Canada will have to go somewhere else. Maybe Costa Rica, I here they have really good cost effective services.
