Mirasol - from the few samples I have seen on YouTube etc, Mirasol images are murky and dark. So your numbers fit with that impression.

Outdoors is where it'll come into its own. Indoors, the poor image quality will be a reasonable trade for a lot of applications.

For example, right now I am typing on my Asus EeePC with a large monitor as the screen. The EeePC screen is on too, but I don't look at it. I have a keyboard right beside me and could plug it into the spare usb port, but I'm used to using this little keyboard now and even prefer it now to larger ones. I don't have to move my fingers far. I have plugged in a mouse which I find easier than the touch pad.

When I go out, I take the EeePC and that's when I want Mirasol so I can see the screen. Also, so that the battery last longer. Battery life and invisible screen are my two big portable problems. I don't mind a substantial reduction in screen image if I can actually see it and there's electricity to keep the image going longer.

Some devices already have two screens [one tiny and one the main screen]. Perhaps a small high quality screen could be turned on too if wanted. Or carried as a Bluetooth extra in a shirt pocket, or as a clip-on plug in device.

---> quite a bit of information is missing from any evaluation of iMoD display quality

I also find it concerting that the economics of manufacturing iMod displays has also taken a back seat. I suspect that is another key reason the product has yet appear anywhere but within niche applications. As Jeffery has proven time and time again, anything can be bought once or twice ... but are the economics sustainable (or can they be made sustainable).

Engineers tend to downplay economics and marketeers tend to downplay quality and ... those are the important realities of the bet !!!

For those interested in the competition to iMoD displays, this presentation gives a pretty good overview of the current pros and cons of OLED's.

data.4dsystems.com.au

Of particular interest is the graph on page 9 which shows the contrast ratio in different lighting conditions. As the graph shows, an OLED without a polarizer has a sharp drop in quality as ambient lighting increases (the Sony XEL-1). However, a polarizer dramatically increases the image quality (the CMEL displays) in sunlight. For comparison, Qualcomm has stated that iMoD displays have a constant contrast ratio of 10.
