You don't think it's possible to have a reliable, plentiful supply of energy and a healthy environment, too?

I don't know about the energy. Demands keep growing and there's no end in sight. I don't know where that plentiful supply of yours will come from. Doesn't mean it can't happen, though. I'm sufficiently awed by technology advances to not rule it out. Also, future generations may lower their expectations so that "plentiful" takes on a meaning different from what it is now.

Re the healthy environment, I don't think that the environment will ever be healthy again, not in a time frame relevant to human history, that is. We've crossed that bridge. I think it's possible to have a tolerably unhealthy environment, though.

When you multiply those two probabilities, you get an even smaller probability.
