They buy things because they want them. Even unhealthy things might help people enjoy life, but if they don't well that was there choice. If its really a mistake its better to let people make their own mistakes than to control them. And people are more likely to make their own decisions for themselves better than other people could. Again, find a better tax attorney. I am not talking about most people, I am talking about you. I don't make enough money at this point for hiring a tax attorney to go over my income and the tax laws with a fine tooth comb to see if I might have possibly missed a deduction. And I don't have enough wealth to retire and live off my savings the rest of my life (and even with savings, interest, dividends, and capital gains are taxable, you could put the money in tax free bonds, but than you get a lower return). All of this (and running for office to try to reduce taxes), is besides the point. Taxes are simply not option in the same way that buying from Walmart is. Are you talking about ads as in advertising? Yes, they don't pay for or have nearly as much advertising as the figure given for their marketing budget, by people who attack them for using more money for marketing that for R&D. Also the people who make this argument ignore the testing costs. And the fact that its just irrelevant. However much or little they spend on marketing, the R&D and testing is still a huge and risky investment that isn't going to happen with out the possibility of larger than normal returns.
