Speaking of the NRA, they will be using this to good effect during the coming campaign:

Obama's State Senate record will haunt him

The Urban Blog list several issues, but this one jumped out:

- He opposed letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation.

That position is pretty extreme when you consider the local hand gun ban extending to a person's home is likely to be held unconstitutional by the Supreme Court this year. It is just terrible public policy to say that people cannot defend themselves in their own home.

I think the NRA may be working up some ad copy on this one. If not, they should be.
