Wharfie, the point was that as you travel back looking at the production figures, you come across declines in production. Those declines didn't mean that the peak just gone was Peak Oil.

Similarly, we should get a decline this year in oil production as people cut back. You should see how grim people look at petrol stations as they hang onto the nozzle as the fuel pumps register many dollars to be paid.

With their houses going down the gurgler, they are feeling impecunious. One thing they can do to save money is not buy petrol. That means production will drop as people don't want to pay so much.

People recommended the post not because they really thought 1990 was Peak Oil, but that the idea was right = one swallow doesn't make a Global Winter. I doubt that they are numerically challenged.

Are they as numerically handicapped as you,..

I would say yes. As proof, I offer up the following, from another poster here:

As of today, there are zero sunspots on the face of our local star. This has been an unusual quiet period that may have broad implications for our environment and enjoyment of our planet. While most of the world is going ga-ga over “Earth Week” and trying to out green each other, the threat of a period of decreased solar radiation is becoming more real.

Much more in the original post here:

For some actual data on the subject, please stare at the following graph and see if you can see the "unusual quite period that may have broad implications..." It eludes me.

Here is some nice background music to play while you chant and post your daily mantras about peak oil.
