Official records didn't count Arab immigration, who unlike the Jews simply walked over a porous border that didn't mean anything to them anyway because the Brits had just invented it. The immense increase in Arab numbers in areas of Jewish settlement, compared to very small increases in numbers in purely Arab areas, tell the tale, as do many accounts from observers. Now some of this immigration was from within the borders of the Mandate and some was external.
