Who gets to decide what is the "logical and wise path forward"? What qualifies them to make such decisions?

The power of their office and your and my vote.

Hillary, for example, dismissed the view of economists who are against cutting gas taxes temporarily, calling them "elitists" in the process.

She's pandering. So is mcsame. There is NO policy value in this. It's a shame today in America that we are debating such drivel when there are so many serious national and global issues to be solved.

As for Iraq, remember that the majority was once in support of unilateral action.

Bottom line: How can we be sure that the "logical and wise path" is always followed even when it goes against the whims of public opinion?

It is possible to be wrong...trick is to learn and adjust.
