Have to wonder how often a heavyweight boxing champ is hired for situations that require charisma, knowledge and powers of persuasion?

Just about never. Fighters are good at beating up their opponents. Which we know doesn't accomplish jack in Washington nowadays, unless you are a stubborn SOB with blinkers on who doesn't care what happens after your term in the White House.
