It's a potent message, like the attack on "Wall Street money brokers," with deep roots in American politics. It's also very hard to figure out what exactly she means by the threat to break OPEC. KT The problem with turf racing is that you can't run a high volume of races on the turf without it getting all messed up. It works in Europe because they have way fewer races. The new synthetic surfaces would be a good alternative if form translated from dirt. But so far it looks like most successful synthetic horses prefer turf and vice versa. Form does not translate well to dirt. So if the industry switches to synthetic it would basically have to change the breed and throw out many decades of work trying to produce fast dirt horses. (major economic impact) What should be done is to eliminate race day medication. That way only sound horses can make it to the track and eventually go on to stud. That would improve the breed by putting a greater emphasis on soundness instead fast horses that are running through their pain and bleeding issues because they are all drugged up. The whip should be outlawed immediately. That's a no brainer.
