Some of the first hands-on mini reviews are starting to trickle in....

gizmodo.com

phonemag.com

engadget.com

My summation of most of what I have read.

- The design and form factor are very very good. The VGA screen is also getting rave reviews.

- The UI looks like it is fun to use and the provided apps (Google Maps, Youtube, weather) seem like they were implemented well.

- The problem, and it definitely matters, is that the touch screen isnt nearly as smooth as the iPhone's screen. A slow clunky touchscreen can absolutely kill the customer experience...no matter how good everything else seems to be. HTC says that the touchscreens havent been calibrated and that it will be much better by the launch. They are going to need to deliver on that promise.

- The battery is only 900mAh. That isnt much for this type of device, though the listed talk times for WCDMA and GSM look fairly good (270 minutes and 330 minutes respectively).

Overall, if the touchscreen is improved, this is going to be a big seller. HTC also has another version with a slideout QWERTY keyboard. I can imagine that will be very popular with power users.
