I think McCain will be different and better on budget issues - he has opposed earmarks for years and is a fiscal conservative. He would have vetoed more pork-laden bills. Any lobbyist on the Hill will tell you that McCain is one of the hardest Senators to influence. He's a stubborn cuss and he goes his own way and tries to behave in an honorable manner. He was shamed by being caught up in the Keating Five scandal in the 1980s and has tried very hard to live it down.

McCain would probably get something passed on immigration.

McCain, who has unsurpassed credibility with the military, would have changed generals and strategy sooner in Iraq and will continue to demand success there. McCain understands that once you are in a war you had better win it for defeat is very costly indeed. Bush understands this too but he let the generals have their head too much.

Bush's biggest failure is not running a tight ship and being too loyal to underlings even when they don't perform. I think McCain would be better there.

McCain also has a REAL track record of working across the aisle, unlike Obama who has voted orthodox liberal down the line.

The rest of the stuff, I don't like McCain's positions. But since they are "moderate" positions, they may help sell him.
