If his own party does not expect him to be better than Bush, why is he going to win the election. That is the issue Right-wingers don't expect McCain to be an improvement because he's a maverick with many moderate positions they disagree with. The religious right is positively miserable about McCain. But for that very reason, he is an easier sell to the country as a whole. McCain vs Obama will be one candidate of the right and the center vs. another of the left and far-left. To me the question is why anybody thinks Obama will win that one. He is George McGovern come again. Except that George McGovern was a war hero and nobody doubted that he loved America.
