I'm a believer in accepting things the 'way they are' instead of 'the way they should be' as far as determining our strategic and national goals.

So you would have accepted the status quo ante in 2002 in Iraq, a containment and inspection program, compared to where we stand now? I doubt it, but I'd like to hear you elaborate more on your vision of strategic and national goals.

I could add that the Republic of South Vietnam didn't exist until the 1954 Geneva Accords were blown off.

I'm a believer in accepting things too- as my position quite clearly shows. You don't invade Iraq if you're willing to mostly accept things the way they are. My belief leads me to think you leave things alone, and let them run their course, unless you are sure your intervention will have a very good chance of making things better. Rearranging the deck chairs in Iraq did not pass that test for me.
