Well, the talk I've read is that Penn set the Clinton folk up to not campaign seriously in those states, for whatever reason. So one of the reasons Obama did so well is that the Clintons didn't go full bore during that time.

In my opinion, Clinton lost the nomination on 1 vote, and that was her vote in the Senate to authorize Bush to go to war. The left wing of the party never forgave her for it and I think that Obama was able to take advantage of it because he came out against the war in one of his speeches.
