Survivorship bias: Start with 1,048,576 monkeys. Each tosses a coin. Those that get tails are killed; those that get heads get a banana. Repeat 20 times. At the end you are left with one very fat monkey who is lauded for his coin-tossing skill and called a genius. Yet some monkey was bound to survive and that monkey is no better at coin tossing than all those dead monkeys you don't see.

SOMEONE was bound to win the PC operating system race. A single dominant system has advantages to all personal computer users that 1,000 different systems wouldn't.

Remind you of anyone? :-)
