Not to argue about it, but IMO the last several months was largely a non-recurring unwind of the long gold/short financials trade, so the recent correlation there is somewhat debatable

Until a gold mania evolves (which could be a long wait), if the miners are going to be evaluated based on their ability to make money at current energy pricing, their stock prices will lag

And if you were a broad based mutual or a sector player and were holding equal or higher weights in miners, in a downturn those dirts are IMO going to go along for any ride south

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens first to see who has to buy those steak dinners
