the young voters are going for Obama. I think these are the voters for whom experience is probably the least important thing.

Yes, I think that is exactly right. There are also lots of people who look at the combined national experience of Reagan, Clinton and Bush, Jr. and decide that how a president performs once in office is what counts.

All the exit polls have shown that change is what people want most. Running as the experienced old hand was actually a disadvantage this time around.

>>You are also looking at the experience difference in the most negative manner. I don't believe the argument was framed that way but maybe that is just the way I am remembering it. I thought the argument was framed more along the lines that "I have more experience and therefore am more qualified to be president." <<

Neal -

I think you may be remembering it in a way that's a bit generous to Senator Clinton.

Remember this one?

"I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it’s imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold,” the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant’s bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.

“I believe that I’ve done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you’ll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy,” she said.
