Of course he wasn't literally a member of the Klan, but the point behind the Klan reference is the idea that him being part of the Weathermen, and many years later was still saying things like "I don't regret setting bombs...I feel we didn't do enough.", is the equivilant of being an unrepentant Klan member. I don't think that is really an exagerated point.

Its not like they are co-plotters, or even I think best buddies, so its still IMO something that should only a minor issue, and which is why I haven't posted about it much, but there does seem to be a big of a double standard. If a Republican politician was an associate of an unrepentant Klan member he probably couldn't run for dog catcher in most places. If he was an associate of an abortion clinic bomber it would at very least be much bigger news than this Ayers situation has been.
