McCain isn't calling for 700 new nuclear power plants, or any number of new power plants. "The French are able to generate 80% of their electricity with nuclear power", doesn't equal "McCain calls for 700+ new power plants, even if it will actually require that many to generate 80% of our electricity needs from nuclear plants.

lol. McCain said that there is "no reason" why the US can't generate 80% of our electricity from nuclear power. Perhaps Romm is wrong is saying that that would require 700 new plants. I don't know, I haven't done the math. Have you? In any case, it obviously would call for a lot of new plants. How many? And the industry is already capacity constrained. McCain was obviously shooting from the hip with his statement. Romm is just pointing out that his comment was, shall we say, ridiculous? Or should we be more polite and say, "Unrealistic"?
