There was a very long stretch of very flat road west of town running all the way to Brownwood.

My father was the town banker so would always purchase cars from bank board members and always wanted "proper" ones. So I was stuck with couches dressed up as Chryslers or top of the line Chevrolets. Never a Buick or a Ford. Wrong bank.

But the road west of town was never patrolled. Only problem was drunk drivers. Just had to watch the weave in the lights coming your way.

I learned how to drive in a 1970 Buick Wildcat with a 455 cubic inch V8 that would get up and go.

THat was a great car if you never had to stop, or you know, actually go around a curve. <g>

'69 Javelin for me. Literally couldn't start moving without chirping the tires, no matter how hard I tried.

I didn't try very hard.
