The government provides all kinds of limitations such as what kind of businesses you can run and from where, how fast you can drive your car and where, how much schooling you must have, that you must wear clothing, etc. The government already limits who can practice medicine and who can manufacture and distribute drugs.

There are already many laws and regulations for all kinds of things many of which are beneficial to a well-ordered society. Right now, you are very much limited by your insurance company the choice of which is likely made by your employer. You are very much limited by cost to what services you can have.

What is the difference if the government provides nationalized health care and pays for it all equally for all citizens? Would you really want to pay individually for all the roads you use, the water you drink, the fire and police services? What makes medical so very different?

If the current private system actually worked, this wouldn't be an issue. Since it does not work and shows no signs of improving, what would you suggest?

If medical care cost $500/year/person no one would care. As it is, the price tag is much too steep for the results we receive and there are better systems in other countries. Since those better systems are government controlled to a much larger extent than ours is, the obvious question would be to ask why?

Perhaps, in our reality, medical care is best provided as a public service.
